Full time with benefits including state health & life insurance, paid vacation, sick & personal leave.

Full year contract is for 260 days per year @ 8 hours per day. Days will be prorated for remainder of school year.

All federal, state and district pre-employment requirements are paid by the district.

Starting salary based on verified prior experience.

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Supervise, organize and participate in high quality custodial services; supervise and evaluate assigned custodial personnel. Shift is 10am to 6:30pm during school days to allow for supervision time for both 1st & 2nd shift staff. Modified daytime shift during summer or breaks. Previous Custodian Supervisor or Head Custodian experience highly desired.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Schedule, organize, supervise and participate in a variety of custodial services.

 

Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff and student assistants; train custodial personnel in the proper techniques of custodial duties; assign and review work and participate in custodial and routine maintenance activities as needed.

 

Develop and prepare work schedules and assignments; coordinate duties and assignments to assure effective operations.

 

Determine, recommend and requisition needed custodial supplies and equipment; communicate with vendors and other outside organizations to coordinate activities and obtain assistance.

 

Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports including employee timesheets, all custodians’ required use of “punch” time cards, inventory levels, facilities status and work performed.

 

Respond to requests from District personnel and faculty to assist with a variety of emergency or special custodial and clean-up duties.

 

Supervise and participate in the cleaning and care of classrooms, restrooms, offices, showers, shops, campus grounds and related facilities in a clean, safe and orderly manner; clean, service, and maintain custodial equipment as required.

 

Assure compliance with all laws, regulations, and procedures regarding the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.

 

Perform routine inspections of all fire extinguishers as required.

 

Coordinate and participate as needed in sweeping, scrubbing, mopping and waxing floors, vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops and other work areas; wash windows, whiteboards and walls; dust and clean furniture and facilities; assist with snow removal as needed. *When school is not “in-session” such as summer break, and other breaks, it is expected that the Custodial Supervisor/Head Custodian will fully participate with, supervise, guide, lead and “coach up” the crew in most tasks.

 

Perform minor non-technical repairs and adjustments to buildings, equipment and fixtures; report repair and maintenance needs and assist maintenance personnel in making repairs as required. *Work with the Director of Maintenance as needed.

 

Report unauthorized or suspicious individuals on campus to appropriate personnel; turn lights on and off, unlock and lock doors and gates; report sanitation and safety issues and hazards.

 

Supervise project crews during summer months for special cleaning assignments.

 

Operate a vehicle to conduct work as needed; operate a variety of equipment, machines and tools related to custodial work.

 

Perform related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or specified Supervisor.

Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law and three years custodial experience.

 

LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must have a valid Kentucky driver's license.

 

All custodians are considered essential workers to maintain the cleanliness of district buildings and grounds. This means that, regardless of the situation (weather, pandemic, etc.), custodians will typically be working to ensure cleanliness and safe passage for the health and safety of all students, staff and visitors. Custodians and administrators not working on-site would be an extremely rare occurrence.

 

 

FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL (FBI) AND STATE (KSP) FINGERPRINT SUPPORTED CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK AND A LETTER FROM THE CABINET FOR HEALTH AND FAMILY SERVICES STATING THE EMPLOYEE IS CLEAR TO HIRE BASED ON NO FINDINGS OF SUBSTANTIATED CHILD ABUSE OR NEGLECT FOUND THROUGH A BACKGROUND CHECK OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT RECORDS MAINTAINED BY THE CABINET FOR HEALTH AND FAMILY SERVICES AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT. KRS 160.380

 

As a condition of initial employment, all employees shall pass a medical examination. The medical examination shall be reported on the form required by Kentucky Administrative Regulation available at the Board of Education office. The examination shall be provided by a licensed physician, physician assistant (PA), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Each medical examination shall include a risk assessment for tuberculosis as required by Kentucky Administrative Regulation. Individuals identified by that assessment as being at high risk for TB shall be required to undergo a tuberculin skin test. 702 KAR 001:160

 

All applicants being considered for employment shall be required to submit to a urinalysis test for the detection of illegal use of drugs and alcohol. An applicant refusing to complete any part of the drug testing procedure will not be considered a valid candidate for employment with the District, and such will be considered as a withdrawal of the individual’s application for employment. If substance screening shows a confirmed positive result for which there is no current physician’s prescription, a second confirming test may be requested by the HRC. If the first or any requested second confirming test is positive, any current job offer will be revoked. The applicant will not be permitted to reapply for employment with the District for at least twelve (12) months and not until the applicant shows proof of successful completion of a drug rehabilitation program or proof that the applicant is no longer engaging in illegal drug use. DSISD School Policy 03.23251
