For 2026-27 school year. Contract is 7 hours per day for 185 days per year. Instructional Assistant salary as per the Classified Salary Schedule + $2,000 annual Extra Service stipend. Benefits include state health & retirement plus additional optional.
Must have:
- Completed an Associates or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (attach transcript or diploma to application), -or
- Completed 48+ semester hours of study at a regionally accredited institution of higher education (attach transcript to application), -or
- Obtained a HS/GED diploma plus successfully completed the Ky. Dept. of Education Paraeducator Assessment. The Kentucky ParaEducator Assessment for our Instructional Assistant positions is now given weekly on Tuesday mornings at the DS Branch Library by Kristal Stanley with MCC ACE 2 Adult Education Services. BASIC FUNCTION:
Serve as the lead instructional monitor in charge of providing a safe and quality environment for students in an alternative classroom setting.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Monitor students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups or in large groups to ensure their safety; follow procedures to safeguard the health and safety of students.
- Plan, organize and implement various instructional activities for students.
- Recommend materials needed to carry out activities planned.
- Confer with teachers, when needed, concerning student behavior.
- Promote positive parent and child interactions and activities.
- Participate in staff activities and in special training programs.
- Assist staff by making copies of needed assignments and/or forms.
- Assist district administration with data input.
- Perform related duties as assigned by building or school leadership. May include, but not limited to, covering internal classified and certified positions where needed and transporting students in school vehicle as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma, a G.E.D. Certificate, or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law. Some experience working with children in an organized setting preferred.

As a condition of initial employment, all employees shall pass a medical examination. The medical examination shall be reported on the form required by Kentucky Administrative Regulation available at the Board of Education office. The examination shall be provided by a licensed physician, physician assistant (PA), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Each medical examination shall include a risk assessment for tuberculosis as required by Kentucky Administrative Regulation. Individuals identified by that assessment as being at high risk for TB shall be required to undergo a tuberculin skin test. All applicants being considered for employment shall be required to submit to a urinalysis test for the detection of illegal use of drugs and alcohol. An applicant refusing to complete any part of the drug testing procedure will not be considered a valid candidate for employment with the District, and such will be considered as a withdrawal of the individual’s application for employment. If substance screening shows a confirmed positive result for which there is no current physician’s prescription, a second confirming test may be requested by the HRC. If the first or any requested second confirming test is positive, any current job offer will be revoked. The applicant will not be permitted to reapply for employment with the District for at least twelve (12) months and not until the applicant shows proof of successful completion of a drug rehabilitation program or proof that the applicant is no longer engaging in illegal drug use.
